Frequently Asked Questions

This page contains a summary of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) regarding the process of Skip Hire. If you have any further questions about your skip hire needs, then feel free to contact our sales team.

How long can I hire a skip for?

Prices quoted from Skip Express allow you to hire a skip for up to two weeks. If you require a skip for a longer period of time, please call us on 0845 450 1137 for more information.

Do I require any permits / documents to hire a skip?
If you plan to keep the skip on a public road, you will require a permit from your local council. Typically, a permit will allow you to place a skip on the road for a minimum of one week, but varies depending on your area.

How much does a permit cost?
The cost of a permit is also dependant on your area, but often varies around £30 to £60. At Skip Express, we can purchase permits on your behalf with your skip order if required. In the unlikely event you cannot obtain an off-road permit, you might want to consider a “wait and load” service instead.

What is a “Wait and Load” service?
With our wait and load service, a skip lorry is sent to your site, and waits for 20-30 minutes while the skip is being filled. After this time, the filled skip is taken away for disposal. This is an ideal service if you have time-limited parking facilities, or cannot obtain an off-road permit.

What do I do when my skip is full?
When your skip is ready for collection, simply contact us to arrange a collection. Alternatively, if your skip is full and you require another empty skip, contact us to book an exchange.

What size skips can I order from Skip Express?
We can provide skip sizes between 2 to 20 cubic yards, and roll on/off containers between 25 to 40 cubic yards. You can find more information in the Services section.

What types of waste are classed as hazardous?
With government legislation becoming more stringent, the number of waste types classed as hazardous has increased. Waste such as plaster board, asbestos, fluorescent lights, fridges, freezers, motor oil / fuel, batteries, electronics, paints and solvents are classed as hazardous. As a result, you should not dispose of hazardous waste in a general waste skip. Please call us on 0845 450 1137 for hazardous waste disposal services.

Will my waste be disposed legally and safely?
Yes. Skip Express is a trading division of Network Waste Solutions Ltd, who are a registered waste carrier. A copy of our waste carrier’s licence is available upon request.
